Knee Joint Pain Causes

We have previously discussed What is Knee Joint Pain, the Structure of Knee Joint and Function of the Knee Joint; however, do you know causes for sudden severe (acute) and long-term dull (chronic) knee joint pain? When it comes down to knee pain, the very first fact that irks everyone’s mind is maybe the person suffering from it is ‘aged’ or has issues like arthritis. What many fail to know and understand for a fact is that the list of causes that could be affecting the condition. Knee pain could very well be either acute or chronic depending on the underlying reason behind the same is important. All the being said, if you have been experiencing a knee pain that does get worse with time and doesn’t lessen even with the knee pain remedial approaches, it is best suggested ensuring that you seek immediate medical help to get the condition checked out. Being active in life is important for your health and organs but often times; this is what ends up contributing to the pain and the direct implication of the same on the knees. Whatever the reasoning be, it is not necessarily surprising that the condition of knee pain does affect people of all ages. It very well could be an outcome of an overworked muscle or even a tear in the ligament or tendons. The possibilities are actually quite extensive. In order to shed some light on the same, I am going to be talking about the causes of knee pain – both acute and chronic.

Sudden Severe Knee Pain Causes (Acute)

  • Muscle sprain
  • Fracture
  • Tear in the tendon
  • Injury

Chronic knee pain causes

  • Knee Bursitis
  • Dislocated Kneecap
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Meniscal Tear
  • Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Patella tendinitis
  • Septic arthritis
  • Gout
  • ACL injury
Explaining each of the reasons could most definitely be a matter of extension. For the most part, majority of these causes are dependent on any kind of inflicted disruption of the activity around the knee and the patella regions in the legs, thus causing the knee to pain at an unprecedented rate.

Watch For Knee Pain Red Flag Symptoms

With the common causes and reasoning out of the way, it is now time to focus on the red flag symptoms that do demand for you to get immediate medical help for the condition. Some of them include:
  • Lack of ability to move or bend the knee smoothly
  • Clicking sounds every time you move your knee
  • Excruciating pain through the knees and the adjoining area
  • The deteriorating condition of the pain over time

Chronic Knee Pain Treatments

If the nature of your knee pain is Acute or if you experience any of the above red flag symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. If your symptoms more of a ‘chronic’ and pain is long-term, you may try some of the remedies for knee pain. We have discussed them extensively in an earlier article.
